New Small Claims Cases To Be Filed In

Six ‘Hub’ Locations

Effective March 18, 2013, all Los Angeles Superior Court small claims cases must be filed in a regional ‘hub’ courthouse: downtown Los Angeles (Stanley Mosk), Alhambra, Antelope Valley (Michael D. Antonovich), Downey, Inglewood, and Van Nuys (East building).

LASC will continue to adjudicate existing small claims cases where they were originally filed. An LASC court clerk will notify the litigants before LASC transfers any existing small claims cases to a hub courthouse or sets any new hearing dates.

Boundaries for new small claims case filing locations can be found under LASC Local Rule 2.3(a)(2) at www.lasuperiorcourt.org. To determine whether to file a small claims case in Los Angeles County and which of the six Los Angeles County small claims hub courts will accept the case, litigants should read Los Angeles Superior Court Rule 2.3, Code of Civil Procedure Sections 392-395, 760.050, 872.110 and Civil Code Sections 1812.10 and 2984.4.

To assist parties filing small claims cases, LASC has posted additional information at each affected courthouse and on the court’s website www.lasuperiorcourt.org (copy attached).

The small claims hub courthouses are located in:

· Alhambra Courthouse, 150 W. Commonwealth, Alhambra, 91801 (accepting small claims cases formerly filed in Glendale, Pasadena, East Los Angeles, El Monte, West Covina and Pomona Courthouses)

· Michael D. Antonovich Antelope Valley Courthouse North, 42011 Fourth St. West, Lancaster 93534

· Downey Courthouse, 7500 E. Imperial Highway, Downey, 90242 (accepting small claims cases formerly filed in Bellflower, Compton, Huntington Park, Long Beach, Norwalk, San Pedro and Whittier Courthouses)

· Inglewood Courthouse, One Regent St., Inglewood, 90301 (accepting small claims cases formerly filed in Beverly Hills, Malibu, Santa Monica, Torrance and West Los Angeles Courthouses)

· Stanley Mosk Courthouse, 111 N. Hill Street, Los Angeles 90012

· Van Nuys Courthouse East, 6230Sylmar Ave., Van Nuys, 91401 (accepting small claims cases formerly filed in Chatsworth, Santa Clarita and San Fernando Courthouses)
