Santa Clarita Courthouse Civil Cases Reassigned to Chatsworth Courthouse Starting Feb. 1

 

Effective Monday, Feb.1, 2012, the Santa Clarita Courthouse will no longer accept limited civil, unlawful detainer, small claims and small claims appeals filings for the North Valley District.  Post-Feb. 1 civil matters must be filed at the Chatsworth Courthouse, 9425 Penfield Ave., Chatsworth, Calif., 91311, in Room 1200. 

Limited civil, unlawful detainers, small claims and small claims appeals matters with a court hearing scheduled prior to Feb. 1, 2012, at the Santa Clarita Courthouse will be heard there.

Limited civil, unlawful detainer and small claims cases with a calendar date on or after Feb. 1, 2012 will be recalendared for a hearing at the Chatsworth Courthouse with notification to follow from the Clerk.

         Effective Monday, April 2, 2012, all new family law filings and hearings formerly within the jurisdiction of the North Central District - Burbank Courthouse, shall be filed and scheduled for hearing at either the Pasadena Courthouse (Northeast District) located at 300 E. Pomona Courthouse North Limited Civil

      Cases To Be Filed in West Covina

Effective Tuesday, May 1, 2012, all new limited civil cases within the jurisdiction of the Pomona Courthouse North shall be filed at the West Covina Courthouse, Room 120A, located at 1427 West Covina Parkway, West Covina, CA 91790.

 

As of May 1, 2012, the Pomona Courthouse North will no longer accept

limited civil filings.

 

The Pomona Courthouse North, located at 350 W. Mission Blvd.,

Pomona, CA 91766, will continue to hear previously calendared limited civil cases through May 31, 2012.

 

All limited civil cases with a calendar date on or after June 1, 2012, for the Pomona Courthouse North will be recalendared for hearing at the West Covina Courthouse with notification to follow from the clerk.

Northeast District Changes Distribution of Civil Cases

New Court Reporter

Availability Policy

Effective May 15, 2012

 

Los Angeles Superior Court Presiding Judge Lee Smalley Edmon signed a General Order on May 1, 2012, which, effective May 15, 2012, suspends Local Rule 2.21 and Appendix C, relating to the availability of court reporters. A copy of the Court Reporter Availability policy is attached.  In addition, copies of the order, policy, and reporter availability schedule can be found on the Court’s website, http://www.lasuperiorcourt.org/, under “Court Reporter Availability.” 

 

The new Los Angeles Superior Court policy regarding normal availability of official court reporters and privately arranged court reporters (effective 5-15-12) includes the following:

 

           Official court reporters will normally be available in criminal, juvenile, family law, and probate matters.  Official court reporters will not normally be available for civil trials, but will normally be available for general jurisdiction morning calendar matters until Friday, June 15, 2012.

 

           Official court reporters will be available in general jurisdiction civil courts for non-trial matters only, two ˝ days a week per a published staffing schedule, effective Monday, June 18, 2012.  Effective June 18, 2012, official court reporters will normally not be available for civil proceedings other than two ˝ day periods per week for non-trial matters in general jurisdiction civil courtrooms, as set forth in a Court Reporter Staff Assignment List (CRSAL) that will be posted in the Clerk’s Office in each courthouse, and on the Court’s website.  Parties should regularly check the CRSAL for days and times official court reporters are normally available in any general jurisdiction civil courtroom.

          Parties may arrange for privately retained reporters by stipulation and order, effective May 15, 2012. Effective May 15, 2012, parties may, by stipulation, arrange for the appointment of a privately retained certified shorthand reporter to serve in the matter as an official court reporter pro tempore

            where an official court reporter is not normally available.  A copy of the Court Approved Stipulation and Order form will be posted on the Court’s website and available in the Clerk’s Office.

 

           Parties may privately arrange for the appointment of a Court approved official court reporter pro tempore without a stipulation from a list of such reporters that will be available on or about July 1, 2012.  The names and contact information for a list of Court approved certified shorthand reporters, who can be privately arranged and appointed as an official court reporter pro tempore without stipulation of the parties will be posted on the Court’s website on or about July 1, 2012.

Mosk Courthouse’s Family Law Division Announces Initial Hearings Schedule for OSC, Motions and Requests for Orders

 

         Effective June 1, 2012, all initial hearings on Orders to Show Cause, Motions and Requests for Orders in the Family Law Division in the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, 111 N. Hill St., Los Angeles 90012, will be calendared on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays according to the following schedule:

 

·  Monday and Tuesday:  Departments 7, 43, 60, 67, 79, 83, 84, 87

·  Thursday and Friday:    Departments 2B, 2D, 6, 22, 27, 63, 65, 88.

 

         Between May 11 and June 15, Department 82’s proceedings will be held in room 217. Effective June 18, 2012, Department 82 will be closed.

 New Restraining Order Center

 

         Effective June 4, 2012, all requests for civil harassment, domestic violence, elder abuse and workplace violence Temporary Restraining Orders (TROs) filed in the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, 111 N. Hill St., Los Angeles, will be filed in the Restraining Order Center (ROC), room 245 (formerly Department 8) on the second floor. 

 

         Hearings on the requests for permanent orders in those cases will be set as follows:

 

·  Civil Harassment and Workplace Violence:  Department 75, room 736, 7th floor.  

 

·  Domestic Violence: By random assignment to a family law department or to

   the department handling an existing family law case, so that the restraining order       matter may be coordinated with the existing family law case involving the same parties.

 

·  Elder Abuse:  Department 9, room 244, 2nd floor, or Department 11, room 246, 2nd floor.
