The official language used for the content of the Los Angeles Superior Court public website is English. Over the next 18 months, the Los Angeles Superior Court will continue to implement paperless (electronic) files for certain case types. Please click here for more information.

Electronic files may be viewed without cost on public access computer terminals located inside the courthouses and at the Archives and Records Center. Some civil documents may also be viewed and purchased from the Court’s website for a fee.

Note – Adoption, juvenile delinquency, juvenile dependency, and paternity (except paternity judgments) cases are confidential, as are some mental health and unlawful detainer records. Parties and attorneys must show identification or have a passcode to view confidential records. Please see clerk’s office staff to obtain a code.

Archives Overview

The Archives and Records Center stores general jurisdiction court cases filed in Los Angeles County only. Cases include Civil, Family Law, Criminal Felony, Probate, and Juvenile records for the majority of cases filed from 1910 to 2004. If you are requesting a case that was filed after 2004, please contact the originating court where the case was filed to confirm the case location. View Courthouses

Court records are available for viewing in one of three mediums: microfilm, paper or digital image and copies are available for purchase. Public computers are available in Room 212 for customers to index cases and to view imaged cases.

To view a confidential case, you must be a party to the case and must present a valid government issued Driver’s License, Identification Card, or a Military Identification Card at the time of your request.

Note: The Archives and Records Center does not store birth, marriage or death certificates. Please contact the Los Angeles County Registrar Recorder/County Clerk’s Office.

Exhibits Overview

Exhibits units throughout the Los Angeles Superior Court store criminal and civil exhibits, generally based on where the case was heard. Exhibits which have not been destroyed in accordance with exhibit retention requirements are securely inventoried, processed and ultimately disposed. If you wish to access exhibits prior to disposal, a court order and government-issued identification will be required.

HOURS of Operation

Records, Exhibits and Archives are open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. , Monday through Friday, except court holidays. Our telephone hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 - 10:30 a.m and 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.


Parking is available at various parking lots in the Civic Center area. Parking fees range from $10 to $20 or a higher rate per day.
